Fun Facts about Roland Luna – Class of ’97 and Texas A&M:

  • Texas A&M was the only school he applied to.  Was A&M or bust.
  • Graduated from High School on Saturday night in 1993 and drove up to College Station on Sunday to start school on Monday.  (That’s how much I wanted to move to College Station to be an Aggie)
  • Once there, I never wanted to leave.  I was there for 6 football season’s , until  I graduated in Dec of 1998.
  • Convinced my two high school best friends to attend Texas A&M with me so that all three of us could become Aggies.
  • Met my wife (Roxanne [Lopez] Luna) – Class of ‘98 and mother of my two girls (Ashley Nicole and Alexis Michelle) in College Station.  (Even though we were from the same neighborhood back home in Edinburg, TX.  I went to Edinburg High School, and she went to Edinburg North High School where her dad was the high school football coach, so our paths never crossed. We just celebrated 20 years of marriage this past December.
  • Our daughter Ashley, is a sophomore in High School and is hoping to lead the next generation of Aggies.
  • Was an officer in the Memorial Student Center – Great Issues club.  Which we brought in National Speakers into the community to discuss current event issues affecting not just students, but the entire community, as a whole.
  • Worked part time in the famous Academic Building in the Sociology Dept, as well as in the common’s food court on campus.
  • Favorite Restaurants:  Chicken Oil Company and Wings’ N More.
  • Favorite Past Time while a student:  Hanging out at Research Park studying and playing Frisbee Golf.

Roxanne and I both graduated with our BS in Food Science and Technology.  We both used them for about 5 years, before we moved into our new careers.

Roxanne, went back to school and received her Masters in Nursing Administration, while Roland just completed his 19th year in the insurance industry here with the Sandy Garza Agency.
